The night Reese and Mallory fell deeply in love - 2020
It's absolutely mind-boggling to think that we've known each other for almost two whole decades now. Our journey began way back in August of 2003 at Mercersburg Academy's LSW. Although we never officially dated in high school, we had always been close friends. My girlfriends can vouch for the fact that I always had a soft spot for Alex, even if he claims obliviousness to my feelings.
As time went by, we graduated from high school in 2007 and ventured off to colleges that were a grueling 11 hours apart. Despite the distance, we somehow managed to keep in touch. We went out a few times during the summer leading up to our senior year of college, but Alex was still oblivious and we remained just friends. We saw each other again at our 5-year and 10-year high school reunions, reminiscing about the memories we had shared.
Then, out of the blue in April 2018, Alex contacted me, revealing that he was moving back from San Francisco to the DMV area. He asked if I would like to accompany him on a friend date to the zoo. We had an incredible time together, but unfortunately, I wasn't available as I was already in a relationship. If I had been single, I would have undoubtedly seized the opportunity to ask him out.
Later that year, Alex and his brother Will purchased a house in Falls Church, VA, and we continued our treasured friendship. Little did I know at the time, that trip to the zoo meant just as much to Alex. It was during that outing that he realized how much he needed me in his life, even if it were solely as a friend. Over the course of the next two years, Alex consistently invited me to various events such as Halloween parties and game nights. We enjoyed each other's company, laughing and creating memories.
Then, on September 27th, 2020, I wished Alex a happy birthday. To my surprise, he invited me on a hike. It seemed like a simple gesture, but it turned out to be a pivotal moment for both of us. About a month later, we found ourselves sharing beers at his place and kitty cuddles, with his cat Reese Whiskerspoon, engrossed in a deep conversation that lasted well into the early hours of the morning. And the three of us have been together ever since!
And the rest is history
Here are just a few of our favorite memories together from the past 20 years!
